Actually Bine and Tom weren't the last to get back home. Mone and Jörg had a couple of days at the Danube Delta and then picked up Lupuz on the way back. They should arrive home this evening. I can't wait to hear how blind Lupuz is settling in with the other 3 Romanians.

I've taken over 2000 photos and am gradually wading through them. Some of the dogs already have sponsors or neuter-sponsors, but I'm afraid some of the photos we were provided with aren't all that clear ... it's not always easy to put a name to the face.

Here are a few of my favourites. I so wish that they could all get a real home. If anyone fancies fostering one of these beauties, or even adopting one outright, then let us know!

Cocuta, sweet natured, friendly, energetic, about 2 years old and measures about 50cm at the shoulder

Peppi, klein, frech, freundlich. Weibchen. 1-2 Jahre jung, ganze 30cm gross
Peppi, small, cheeky, friendly. Female. 1-2 years young, all of 30cm tall.

Grazia, sanft und schmusig. Weibchen. Ca. 58cm.
Grazia, gentle and loving. Female. 58cm tall. We estimate about 2 years old, Grazia could be a little bis older though.

Watch this space ... more tomorrow!
Morgen mehr!

Wieder zu Hause. Es ist alles so ruhig. Kein Hundegebell.

Home. Everything is so quiet. The sound of barking dogs is missing.
There was a constant sound of dogs barking, even in the hotel, a background noise from dogs somewhere in the vicinity.
I think we will all need time to digest our experiences in Romania.
Everything here is just so, clean, ordered. I was even happy yesterday evening that we only had 14° and rain.

The last two people from the group, Bine and Tom should arrive home sometime this morning. I hope they had a good trip, it's such a long long way.

Now I shall have a quiet breakfast with my husband, cuddle my dogs and give thanks again and again that they are here with us. Then I shall start on the pile of photos, it must be over 1000, although I haven't counted them. Now our job is to get as many sponsorships as possible, and even more important, find permanent homes!

Wir schätzen eure Unterstützung, vielen vielen Dank dafür!
A big thank you to everyone, your support is been fantastic!

The last few words before I fly home tomorrow. Our time here has gone by so quickly. We have achieved so much, but there is still so much to do.
Gesche and Alwin already set of home this morning by car, so there "only" 6 of us in the shelter today. Tom and Jörg didn't do any more work on the "big building" (the new dog pens), instead they took care of a few small things like mounting proper latches on the existing pen doors. Mr. Stefan has been using a lot of wire to reinforce the rather weak original latches. They should work better now. The middle row of pens is finished. The long row unfortunately not, there just wasn't enough time. The work will be finished by local workers.
The field kitchen was put on its foundation and tried out. The boys only boiled some water, but it worked!
Anita took car of the puppies, as she has done every day since we've been here. Bine and Anita stowed away the rest of the donations from Germany.

Gabi and her daughter, Cristina and Marianne (another volunteer) were also there today. Marianne makes very interesting bags and sells them for 10€. The proceeds go towards the shelter.
Mone and I catalogued and photographed the remaining dogs. The cat house was cleaned one more time, fresh water provided and a few more photos taken.

Blind Lupus will be going home with Mone and Jörg. Someone threw something into this lovely dog's face which blinded him. It's so fantastic to know that he is going to a good home.

So, das war's aus Rumänien!
That was it from Romania!

I took a few other photos during the last two days.

Yesterday only Irina was there and it was decided to operate in a storage room.

Irina brachte alles mit - Tische, Lampen usw usw ... zwei sehr grosse Koffer!
Irina brought everything she needed with her - fold out Tables, Lamps etc etc ... two enormous suitcases full!

After we'd finished with the dogs we started on the male cats.
Es ging ratzfatz.
It didn't take long at all

4 der 5 Kater/4 of the 5 toms
Guter Plan!

The we had to feth the cats for their vaccinations. Back and forth through the yard in the pouring rain. 2-4 cats in a transport box and then back again. The cats have two rooms. We had got them all into one room, and once they were vaccinated they were brought into theother room. A good plan!

I wasn't able to get hold of four cats. I caught one cat who decided she didn't want to be vaccinated and bit and scratched me. What a mess!

Am Ende hatten wir 37 Rüden, 22 Hündinnen und 5 Kater kastriert!
At the end we had neutered 37 male dogs, 22 bitches and 5 toms.

Yay!

Yesterday was a really long day, I didn't get back to the hotel until 10pm and was to tired to switch on my laptop. Something to eat, a bath and into bed. I hoope I'm forgiven.

First a few photos from the day before yesterday.

We prepared the dogs outside, they got their anesthetic, transponder and ear clip and were shaved.

Today a bit shorter. It's midnight here and I am sooooo tired.

We have two days of neutering in the shelter. Today the two vets Ilana and Andrea were there and have worked hard all day neutering neutering neutering. 30 dogs and 11 bitches. 41 dogs in one day! We didn't leave the shelter until after 8pm, drove to the hotel and just managed to get somthing to eat before the restaurant closed.

Now sleep is called for. Breakfast at 7.30am. In the shelter more neutering is planed, including 5 tom cats. All the cats will be vaccinated ... I decided on the spur of the moment to donate the vaccines so that the cats could finally be vaccinated.

More tomorrow, see you then!

Sunday 12 May 2013

A bit more news from yesterday. A highlight was the delivery of the field kitchen, donated by a kind lady in Germany. Mr. Stefan will be able to cook large quantities of donations from supermarkets etc along with rice or potatoes.

The first obstacle was getting it down from the van.

Geschafft! Made it!

Jörg links, Tom rechts ... :o)))
Jörg on the left, Tom on the right ... o)))

Ion (the gent from the village who's helping) is making the foundation for the field kitchen. A little four-legged help is always welcome.

Towards the end of the afternoon we let the cats back into their room. A full inspection was called for, not just the new loos but also the new scratching post and the brilliant beds made especially for them by Anne and Sabine - thank you so much ladies!

I wasn't in the shelter today, but Anita reported that the loos and the beds were well used!

The boys were very busy again today. With temperatures of around 30° !! they were putting on the roofs on the new pens.
Tomorrow is a neuter-marathon, the vets from RAR are coming to neuter some 50 animals in the shelter. 7 am breakfast then off to the shelter!

Das war's für heute! Bis morgen!
That's all for today, see you tomorrow!
